Questions to Ask Before Traveling Together
Discuss budget, pace, accommodation, food, nightlife, alone time, and decision-making before the trip starts.
Money
What is a comfortable daily budget? Which expenses should be shared, and which should stay separate? How do you feel about expensive restaurants, taxis, or last-minute upgrades?
Daily pace
Do you prefer early starts and full itineraries, or slower mornings and fewer activities? How much walking is comfortable?
Accommodation
Are you comfortable sharing a room? Do you prefer hostels, hotels, apartments, or something else? What level of cleanliness, privacy, and location matters?
Food and nightlife
Are there dietary restrictions? Is trying restaurants a major part of the trip? Does one person want nightlife while the other wants to sleep early?
Alone time
Traveling together does not mean spending every hour together. Ask whether either person wants independent activities or quiet time.
Decision-making
What happens when you disagree? Decide whether one person leads certain days, whether decisions require consensus, and how flexible the itinerary should be.
Logistics and responsibility
Who checks transport, reservations, weather, and required documents? Shared responsibility is often healthier than assuming one person will manage everything.
